Zakopane is a resort town in southern Poland, at the base of the Tatra Mountains. It is a popular tourist destination for winter sports, summer mountaineering and hiking. It can be reached by cable car and a funicular to the nearby ski areas with sweeping mountain views. With its wooden chalets dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, symbols of Zakopane-style architecture, some have been converted into museums, while others have been converted into upscale hotels. Zakopane is considered a haven for painters, poets, writers and composers, due to its calm and serenity away from the noise of big cities, in addition to the charming and inspiring landscapes for artists.
