Located southwest of Bukit Sina's cemetery, Fort St. John's was once a private Portuguese church dedicated to St. John the Baptist until it was rebuilt by the Dutch in the eighteenth century and turned into a fortress to protect against land attacks from Malay forces. It is located on the top of St. John's Hill, about three kilometers away. From the city of Malacca, it was also equipped with cannons overlooking the sea.
